Description

Overview:
This light activity deals with "silent letters" of English language which are encountered in a large number of English language words. Students read a fairly simple dialogue with the blanks for words containing silent letters. Silent letters, however, are listed while the rest of the letters are blanked. Students find the missing words and become aware of silent letters. Great activity for a warm-up.

A great idea and good dialogue.... but when did the digraph "wh" become just the sound "w"?? It is NOT the same sound as in "water" or "will"-- we do not say "woo" for "who"!!

I'm thinking this might be a good example of when it's good to be "open." We can snag this idea and ... polish it. I'm also a bit of a word nerd and ... G just isn't the only silent letter in "Foreign." I'm at an OPen Ed conference right now and one of the thrusts is the power of people being able to tweak, improve and yes, correct what other people share.
